About Us

Located in Board of Education District 8 and KCS Region 2, Carter High School has proudly served the Strawberry Plains community since its opening in 1915. With a servant-minded spirit and a strong feeder pattern rooted in tradition and community pride, Carter continues to build on a legacy of excellence that unites students, families, and staff.

Carter is dedicated to shaping graduates who are confident, compassionate, and future-ready. The school emphasizes learning experiences that are purposeful, challenging, and designed to spark curiosity while supporting the unique talents of every student. Within three specialized academies—the Freshman Academy, the Academy of Communication and Health, and the Academy of Engineering and Manufacturing—students are given pathways that connect their academic work to real-world opportunities, preparing them for success in college, career, and beyond.

Academic opportunities at Carter extend far beyond the classroom. Students can challenge themselves through Honors and Advanced Placement courses, Dual Enrollment, and Industry Certifications within Career and Technical Pathways. They also gain hands-on experiences through early postsecondary programs such as job-shadowing, work-based learning, and clinical internships, which provide a direct link between high school and future aspirations.

Carter thrives on meaningful partnerships that strengthen both the school and the broader community. With a welcoming and supportive environment, students are encouraged to lead, collaborate, and advocate for themselves and others. The school works closely with local businesses to expand opportunities, including hosting the first and only student-run manufacturing program, Carter Manufacturing, created in partnership with the Greenheck Group. These experiences, combined with a wide variety of extracurricular, athletic, and leadership activities, empower Carter students to reach their fullest potential and graduate ready to contribute in every arena of life.
